Omni Infinity Media

lightweight, high-porosity, diverse soil ecosystem growing plants in infinite landscapes

Omni Infinity Media® is a lightweight, high-porosity, diverse growth media growing plants in infinite landscapes. Omni Infinity Media (OIM) is comprised of BIO and GEO.

BIO is THE LIFE of Omni Infinity Media. It is a proprietary set of probiotic, mineral, geological, and cellulosic components. BIO introduces the building blocks of soil development, including more than 1,500 species of microbes. It is used at 1/4” depth over any depth GEO to grow a soil ecosystem in extreme environments.

GEO is THE BASE of Omni Infinity Media. It is a geological substrate comprised of lightweight mineral aggregate. GEO is used at variable depths from as little as 3 inches to over 6 feet to provide a healthy rooting environment. At only 35-45 pounds/cubic foot when wet, GEO’s lightweight makes it ideal for use on structure. GEO’s high porosity remains exceptional over time, providing triple the stormwater control of typical prepared soil. Due to GEO’s ultra-light dry delivery weight, it is the easiest growth media to handle, install, and ship. About 90% of the U.S. population is within 250 miles of a GEO location.

OMNI INFINITY RAPIDLY FORMS LIVING SOIL.

GEO and BIO transform into a robust landscape that grows within weeks after installation. GEO acts as the soil’s geologic substrate, comprising more than 95% of OIM’s effective soil volume. BIO is applied in a thin layer, as a top dressing over the GEO, forming biotic crusts and nurturing seed germination and plant establishment. BIO introduces microbial communities and creates the conditions for life to flourish on GEO. As plant roots and fungal mycelia bioturbate the GEO substrate, a natural soil horizon forms, transforming the top 2” of sterile GEO into a living biomantle. As intentional bacteria and fungi continue to cycle nutrients, after about 18-24 months from installation, this soil biomantle growth stabilizes and the GEO below it remains white, retaining its porosity and permeability over time. Omni Infinity Media is recreating natural conditions for topsoil growth onto GEO, and is rooted in the science of microbial colonization, biochemistry, and strategic ecosystem development. Over 1,000 plant taxa have successfully grown in Omni Infinity Media in its two decades of applications coast-to-coast.

OMNI INFINITY HAS EXCELLENT & ENDURING PORE SPACE.

Omni Infinity Media is used nationwide for nature-based solutions to stormwater management such as extensive green roofs, intensive green roofs, bioinfiltration, bioretention, bioswales, rain gardens, planters, soil cells, suspended pavement, tree pits, and other stormwater best management practices (BMPs). Use of Omni Infinity Media in at-grade landscapes for brownfield redevelopment has yielded significant project cost savings and reductions in gray infrastructure, hauling, and excavation. Omni Infinity Media’s high & long-lasting porosity and infiltration rate make it an effective stormwater BMP. With a porosity more than 3x typical prepared soils, Omni Infinity Media can manage more than 3x the stormwater volume. Omni Infinity Media has been used and/or approved for stormwater applications by the following authorities having jurisdiction, among others:

DIG INTO NATURE-BASED SOLUTIONS ROOTED IN OMNI INFINITY

MORE THAN 3x STORMWATER STORAGE

  • This assembly using OIM stores 18,837 cubic feet of stormwater.

  • If it were built with typical prepared soil, it would have stored 6,038 cubic feet of stormwater.

LIGHTER WEIGHT, MORE DESIGN OPTIONS & EASIER INSTALL

  • This assembly using OIM weighs at full saturation & full maturity 60 psf.

  • If it were built with typical “lightweight” green roof media and design practices, it would have weighed 250 psf.
