The Park at North Union
Omni Infinity Media comprises the growth media in the showcase open space for Chicago’s largest residential development in decades. While North Union’s anchor park is at-grade and publicly accessible, it is over a subterranean parking garage, which limited both the weight the structure could support and the possible locations for stormwater detention vaults on site. Omni Infinity Media’s light weight and high capacity for stormwater management solved both challenges on this project, while also supporting beautiful and robust plantings. The sloped lawn achieves its grade changes through the use of a geofoam and includes a geosynthetic expandable grid within the soil profile to withstand foot traffic and winter sledding and to prevent soil erosion. Tree root balls are anchored using dead man anchors and strapping, as typically done in on-structure landscapes and within engineered growth media.
