Fulton West

a rooftop terrace encompassing a range of green roof typologies

Fulton West is a nine-story building that features 20,000 SF of landscaped green space, outdoor terraces, and a private roof deck. The mixed-use development opened in 2017 and houses both office and retail tenants in the heart of one of Chicago’s most popular neighborhoods, Fulton Market. Omni Ecosystems supplied, installed, and now maintains the building’s ninth-floor rooftop terrace.

The rooftop terrace is an amenity space encompassing a range of green roof typologies, varying in plant palette, media depth, technical design solutions, and irrigation methods. Among the many unique features of this space is a rolling topography, created by strategically mounding and sculpting growing media.

Users also enjoy colorful perennials, a native meadow, an elevated lawn, and flowering trees. This variety of vegetation is achieved with as little as 4 inches of Omni Infinity Media, increasing in depth around the trees and topographical features. The space is activated with an array of amenities including an outdoor fire pit, kitchen, and seating. The resulting communal roof terrace provides a generous and inviting landscape amenity for tenants and visitors alike in this bustling Chicago neighborhood.
