Celebrating Photosynthesis Day

Photosynthesis is the process used by plants to convert light energy into chemical energy that, through cellular respiration, can later be released to fuel the organism's metabolic activities. In other words, this is how plants eat. Healthy, well fed plants enrich the environment for all living things by cleaning and cooling the air, providing food and raw materials, and by simply making the world a prettier place to be.

In honor of photosynthesis and the plants it sustains, Omni Ecosystems celebrates Photosynthesis Day one day every summer. We come together to celebrate sunlight, plants, and the benefits they provide through a group planting project. This year the celebration coincided with the groundbreaking on Seed a Lot: Sidewalk Share, Omni’s partner project with the 2021 edition of the Chicago Architecture Biennial.

The Omni team and friends, including neighbors from Bronzeville Classical School across the street, donned their Photosynthesis Day t-shirts, slathered on the sunblock, and pitched in to spread Omni Infinity Media, plant seeds, and place trees and plants on the setback of the vacant lot just north of Omni headquarters. Festivities included a group lunch and ended with a happy hour on Omni’s green roof.
