WFYI GREEN ROOF

Indianapolis, IN

WFYI is Indiana’s flagship PBS and NPR member television and radio stations. In the spring of 2013, WFYI installed a 6,000-square-foot Omni Green Roof, one of Indianapolis’ largest green roofs at the time, atop its headquarters.

Prior to the installation of the green roof, recording equipment in the studios picked up the sound of rain hitting the roof, a problem eliminated by the tall plant canopy now growing on the rooftop. The green roof meadow features a variety of native and pollinator-friendly plants including daylilies, echinacea, and cosmos. The varied, colorful plant palette provides the overlooking  offices with meadowscape views unique within the urban environment.

"The Omni Green Roof not only succeeded completely in providing the soundproofing we desired, but it did so in a way that makes a statement to the community. We proudly show off the roof on station tours."
