JANELLE JOHNSON
Associate Director of Landscape Architecture

Janelle is Associate Director of Landscape Architecture for Omni, bringing more than 12 years of experience in site planning and design. Her experience spans the public and private sectors, with projects ranging from residential estates to public parks. Her interests lie at the intersection of design and preservation, where her design approach uses the cultural and historical influences of the site to inform her design sensibility. After earning a master’s degree in landscape architecture and a certificate in historic preservation at the University of Pennsylvania, Janelle has taken projects from start to finish, managing the entire design process including schedule and budgets for projects from early design through construction observation. Her skill in managing teams efficiently translates into cost effective and timely projects for the firm’s clients.

Janelle is an active leader in the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) and is a dynamic advocate for diversity in the profession, participating in multiple Diversity Summits. This task force, which consists of designers of color, helps ASLA create action items for Career Discovery and Diversity within the profession, with a specific focus on African-American and Latino populations as these communities account for less than 10 percent of graduating landscape architecture students. Through this work, Janelle looks to increase early exposure to the profession for young students, identify and remove barriers to design education for people of color, and provide mentorship to those who are pursuing a career in Landscape Architecture, with a goal of shifting the demographics of the profession to align more closely with that of the country.
